SALT is led by its Director Dr Paul Latreille, backed up and supported by a multidisciplinary team, with diverse experience across Learning and Teaching and Quality Enhancement.

Director of Swansea Academy of Learning and Teaching - Professor Paul Latreille

Professor Latreille, of the School of Business and Economics, was an early winner of the University Distinguished Teaching Award and is the only academic to be recognised by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) Economics Network for his excellence in learning and teaching in different categories in different years. In 2008 he was the recipient of the HEA’s Student Nominated Award, and he was a co-winner of the E-Learning Award in 2007.

Dr Latreille has a long-standing interest in the use of technology to support and enhance learning, both from a pedagogical and practitioner perspective.

Strategic Projects Manager, Student Experience - Phil Brophy

Phil Brophy is a part of the Planning and Strategic Projects Unit and is the (Acting) Strategic Projects Manager with a remit for the Student Experience. Phil aims to ensure that the university delivers an excellent Student Experience which is responsive to the needs of students and employers. Phil joined Swansea University in 2007 working as Quality Enhancement Officer within the Academic Registry. He then moved to a shared quality assurance and enhancement post as a part of both Swansea Academy of Learning and Teaching (SALT) and the Planning and Strategic Policy Unit.

E-Learning Officer - Chris Hall

Chris Hall has many years experience of teaching and using learning technology to enhance the teaching and learning process. He has been involved with many projects in the University and is currently leading one of the HEFCW enhancement programmes.

E-Learning Officer - Matthew Allen

Matthew Allen has fifteen years involvement in education (seven years of direct teaching) and has been heavily involved in using technology in the learning process – administration, development, support and application – since 2001, on a variety of different platforms. He is currently working across the University on an assortment of different projects and applications of technology to enhance learning and teaching.

ESDGC Programme Manager - Dr Jane Claricoates

This academic year the SALT team has been joined by Dr Jane Claricoates as the ESDGC Programme Manager.

Dr Claricoates’ cross institutional role will contribute to the University’s curriculum reform and start to develop a programme of support for colleagues to help them take advantage of the many opportunities presented by Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship for improving Learning and Teaching and thereby improving their students’ University experience and employability.
