Image of overlocking hands to indicate working togetherThis resource forms part of the Communication and Collaboration section of the CPD-Canvas Essentials course. It focusses on Canvas’ Group functionality; how to set Groups up as a teacher and how students can interact with the tools available in their Group areas. Group work has the potential to foster community amongst students and between students and teachers. An instructor could, for example, make themselves available to a certain group at a certain time and engage with the group via the group Discussion tool.

In the resource you will find two case studies where Swansea University lecturers have been interviewed about their experience of group work. This is an excellent introduction to some of the hurdles involved but is not designed to be a comprehensive guide. Some links to further resources on group work are provided at the end of the resource.
