I recently came across a blog post on the HEA website written by Fabio R. Aricò (F.Arico@uea.ac.uk). You can read the full post here: When student confidence clicks academic self-efficacy and learning in higher education. The post refers to a project that was delivered at the HEA Social Sciences annual conference 2014. The aim of the project is to promote a learning environment where: (i) students can build their own confidence along with their learning experience, (ii) teachers can receive immediate feedback on student attainment and student confidence at the same time, (iii) students and teachers can engage in a dialogue on how to achieve learning objectives while enhancing academic self-beliefs. The following SlideShare accompanies the presentation.

This month’s Make One Change is Improving Student’s Confidence, so that fits in quite well with the theme. If you have anything to add to this we would love to hear from you. How have you improved your students’ confidence? What changes to your pedagogy did you make in order to do this?

  1. Thank you for mentioning my work in your great blog. The project is now evolving into a pilot for metrics of learning gain. (HEFCE funded). Self-efficacy is one of the metrics we proposed, along with GPAs and concept inventories. Please get in touch if you want to know more.
