Professor Jane Thomas – SALT Director
Jane Thomas is the Director of SALT. She is a National Teaching Fellow and a Principal Fellow of the HEA. Jane began her teaching career in the health professions and has a particular interest in authentic assessment and innovative teaching. She is committed to teaching which is theory led and practice driven and demonstrates this in her role as a National Assessor for the United Kingdom Public Health Register. She became the first female teaching professor at Swansea, appointed via the teaching route in 2014. She publishes, contributes to national and institutional policy and strategy and Chairs the institutional Learning and Teaching Committee. Jane was appointed a TEF Assessor in 2016.

Chris Hall – SALT Manager
Chris Hall has been involved in learning and teaching for a number of years both in the UK and overseas and is programme lead for the Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Fellow of the Learning and Performance Institute.

Jenny Alders is PA to the Director of SALT and provides admin support to the SALT team. Jen has an extensive background in higher and further education and works in an integrated way on matters learning and teaching. She supports the SALT Champions meetings, providing both a point of contact and administrative input. Jen is both versatile and creative, using her talents in support of the internal HEA recognition process and the institutional PG Cert.

Matthew Allen has been in teaching and education for many years and has been heavily involved in using technology in the learning process – administration, development, support and application, on a variety of different platforms. He works across the University on an assortment of different projects and applications of technology to enhance learning and teaching.

With over 17 years of teaching and training experience, Helen has been heavily involved in both curriculum design and the use of technology in the teaching and learning process in FE HE, Local Government and the private sector.
Helen has particular interests in inclusivity, assistive technology and instructional design and is very much focussed on support and accessibility for all – making your teaching inclusive, immaterial of technology or ability.

Simon has over 10 years experience working within learning and teaching. Early in his career he taught Science and Biology within Secondary school Education before moving into technology enhanced learning in the Higher Education sector. Simon is responsible for developing, supporting and embedding best practice in learning and teaching across the university within the SALT team.

Stuart Henderson provides targeted support for online assessment and feedback across the institution. Previously Stuart worked for the Welsh Video Network and Media Services and started out as a primary school teacher.

Mandy joined the SALT team in July 2015 after 14 years as an academic. She taught learning and teaching modules, at under graduate and post graduate level, on a range of programmes including initial teacher training. She has a special interest in learning technologies and enjoys exploring and sharing new and innovative practices in teaching and learning. As part of the SALT team Mandy will be helping deliver enhancement, innovation and other relevant support and services. Mandy is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy

Louise recently joined SALT supporting the implementation of the University’s internal route to HEA Fellowship. An exciting initiative, this formal recognition of staff expertise in learning, teaching and assessment is embedded within the SALT Strategy and University’s Learning and Teaching Strategy. Prior to joining SALT, Louise spent 15 years at Swansea University heading up the Quality Office, supporting both quality assurance and enhancement initiatives and supporting the University’s Learning and Teaching Committee, advising on policy and strategy development. Louise will be involved in supporting and guiding both applicants and assessors on their experience with relation to the UKPSF along with the administrative tasks in terms of supporting the assessor panels.
