HEA Fellowship

What is HEA Fellowship?

Its formal recognition that your practice adheres to the principles of the United Kingdom Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF). It provides different categories of Fellowship according to your length of employment in HE and also your role in leading change within your subject area, College, within the institution, nationally or internationally.  The requirements are clearly aligned with the UKPSF.

Why is Fellowship Important?

Being a Fellow of the HEA in any category has a number of benefits. These include:

  • It has UK-wide relevance and is recognised across the sector
  • Facilitation of participation in professional networks, including discipline based networks
  • Demonstrate your commitment and contribution to teaching, learning and the student experience
  • Gain formal recognition of your development as an educator and assist in planning your career development
  • Establish credibility with teaching and research colleagues
  • Review and develop your practice across a set of national standards in teaching and supporting learning
  • Provides proof of national recognition of commitment to professionalism in teaching and learning in Higher Education
  • Demonstration that practice is aligned with the UKPSF
  • Indication of professional identity for Higher Education practitioners, including the entitlement to use post-nominal letters:

    • FHEA – Fellow of the Higher Education Academy D2
    • SFHEA – Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy D3
    • PFHEA – Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy D4
