BIO345 – Macroevolution and Phylogenies (Simulation Practical)

Number of Students: 45

Day, Time and Location: Tuesday, 10th March, 09:00 – 11:00 (or 09:00 – 17:00 if you want to stay for the whole thing !), Union House PC Lab 302

Session outline:

This 3rd year practical on simulation techniques in macroevolutionary biology presents an example of integrating new knowledge and skills from the practical (and also across the module) into a concise assessment that encourages creativity and analytical thinking in addition to core skills such as concise scientific writing.

The first hour or so is the introductory lecture which sets out the assessment and sets the students up to work independently for the rest of the day (Kevin has a more or less troubleshooting and guiding / facilitating role after the lecture component).

Although the session runs all day, the best bit to attend is 09:00 – 10:30 or 11:00 if you have the time, as you get the introduction and task set up and the some of the activity. Coming later in the day would be difficult to see what was happening.
