In todays SALT session it was me again! Yay!!
The topic: Lecture Capture at Swansea University using eStream. A bit of a mouthful, thankfully using it is very straightforward. I say straight forward, the main stumbling block to using the lecture capture software (encoder) is the PC/laptop that the software is to be installed on. It must meet minimum requirements such as:
- 4GB RAM
- Newish processor (INTEL i5 or better)
- A suitable graphics card
- DivX software
Not all PCs or laptops are created equal and not all PCs across the University meet these minimum requirements, this I found when I tried to install the software on the loaned laptops which looked pretty new, but failed to work. So todays attendees couldn’t ‘play’ with the software, the session was more chalk and talk, eStream demonstration from me but some good questions and conversations were had.
But once you do get the software installed it takes literally a few clicks and a username/password to get started, then a few clicks at the end to stop and sent to the server.
SALT are trialling the use of eStream across the university with the objective to feedback the thoughts from staff and students to L&T Committee. If you would like more information regarding the trial or lecture capture in general leave a comment below and we’ll get in touch.
