HEA Fellowship Recognition

After months of planning, yesterday witnessed an extremely successful series of events to recognise the achievements and contributions of HEA Fellows from across Wales, but in particular those at Swansea University.

A celebratory lunch for 40 Senior and Principal Fellows across Wales, including several at Swansea – Lynne Walsh (SHHS), Steve McVeigh (COAH) and Ian Davies (COS), as well as Principal Fellow and Director of SALT Jane Thomas, was held in Room West.

A long awaited trip to the Bay Campus then followed. Two groups were directed by Lawrence Roche and Liz Rees from Marketing around the new campus, showcasing the research and teaching facilities and emphasising the purposeful design to promote exchange between staff, students and employers.

Anxiously, I counted them out and counted them all back on the bus – an unexpected but delightful double decker which, due to the positive outlook of our visitors, went down extremely well. All the ‘naughty’ ones were on the upper deck, but I kept a close eye on them with that magic mirror!

The evening concluded with canapes, refreshments and addresses from PVC Martin Stringer and Professor Thomas. All Fellows at Swansea were invited and those who have gained Fellowship in the last year in particular were highlighted. The contributions of all our fellows to demonstrating and enhancing teaching excellence are however much valued.

It was a delightful event to share Swansea’s vision for the future and in particular the role that SALT plays in supporting us get there. I had a welcome glass of wine at the end, relieved that all went well. The SALT team pulled together, once again, to ensure that everything went smoothly. The work of colleagues from professional services in catering, conference services and portering and estates was appreciated to ensure a well organised and supported event.

And of course, don’t forget that Swansea staff can apply for Fellowship of the HEA (all categories except Principal Fellows) through our free internal route. More details of the requirements, information sessions and assessment rubric on our HEA Fellowship website.
