As you may know it’s Islamic awareness week in Swansea Uni and there are some great activities going on around the campus. Outside Fulton House there is an exhibition where everyone is welcomed to peruse posters, pamphlets and books about Islam and to engage in conversation or light refreshments with the organisers. Deb and I called in to have a chat about the event and had some lovely fragrant tea and dates. I wondered if there were any specific issues that lecturers ought to be aware of regarding Muslim culture or religion, but aside from being aware of Muslim holidays and respecting the need for some boundaries between male and female during group activities really our guide couldn’t think of anything. She explained that is important to learn a little about your students and to be flexible with expectations, but other than that she smiled it’s just great to have a better understanding about one another.
